Rules and Regulations

  1. GENERAL
    1. The Last Palm Standing - Mediacorp Subaru Car Challenge 2019 (the "Contest") is open to all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 18 years and above as of 1st September 2019, except:
      1. employees of Mediacorp Pte. Ltd. ("Mediacorp") and their immediate families;
      2. employees of the Contest's sponsoring companies and their advertising agencies;
      3. past winners in previous editions of the Contest; and
      4. for medical reasons, pregnant women and people who suffer from anxiety/panic attacks, arthritis of the spine, back, neck, knees or legs.
    2. Each Contestant is required to produce upon request his/her original and ONE (1) photocopy of his/her passport, NRIC and/or birth certificate (or such other identification document) for the purpose of identity verification.
    3. By participating in the Contest, each Contestant agrees to be bound by these Rules and Regulations and hereby expressly agrees to follow, abide by and adhere to the Rules and Regulations. Non-compliance with or any breach of any of the Rules and Regulations shall immediately disqualify the Contestant from further participation at any stage of the Contest and any prizes won shall be forfeited, withheld or withdrawn, at Mediacorp's sole discretion.
    4. The winner of the Contest shall win the grand prize (the "Grand Prize") of one (1) Subaru XV 2.0i-S Eyesight (the "Vehicle").
    5. The Grand Prize does not include any other entitlements or provisions, unless otherwise stated in writing. In particular, Mediacorp specifically excludes the following costs and expenses in relation to the Vehicle from the Grand Prize:
      1. Certificate of Entitlement (subject to Rule 3.8 below)
      2. Vehicle Registration Fee
      3. Road Tax
      4. Insurance
      5. Number Plate
      6. IU Unit
      7. Any other miscellaneous costs involved in the registration, "transfer" and ownership of vehicles
    6. The winner shall be responsible for paying all taxes, duties and other fees arising from the transfer, ownership and registration of the car.
    7. The Vehicle is transferable to a third party nominated by the winner and must be registered within 3 months from the date the winner is announced.
    8. Mediacorp reserves the right to substitute, add to or alter the Grand Prize or any other prizes offered. All prizes are not exchangeable for cash.
    9. Mediacorp does not undertake any responsibility to ensure that the Grand Prize will be delivered by the sponsors or otherwise to the winner. No obligation is incurred by Mediacorp or its related/affiliated companies, officers, employees and/or agents, by reason of the Contestant's participation in the Contest or by reason of anything done or omitted to be done by the Contestant as a result or on account of this Contest.
    10. Mediacorp shall not be liable or responsible for any and all losses, damages, costs and/or expenses (of any nature whatsoever) suffered by any Contestant arising from any failure or refusal, for whatever reason, to deliver or transfer, whether by Mediacorp or any sponsor, the prize or make good on any promise or offer to the Contestant or for any defect in the Grand Prize.
    11. Each Contestant expressly acknowledges and agrees that neither Mediacorp nor Motor Image Enterprises Pte Ltd (“Motor Image”) shall be liable to any of the Contestant(s) for any loss or damage or injuries whatsoever or howsoever caused arising directly or indirectly in connection with the Contest. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, each Contestant expressly acknowledges and agrees that Mediacorp and Motor Image have expressly excluded liability for all direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage, including but not limited to injuries, loss or damage to other equipment or property or for loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings pursuant to the Contest.
  2. QUALIFICATION AND REGISTRATION
    1. The qualifying period for the Contest is from Saturday, 31st August 2019 to Sunday 20th October 2019 ("Qualifying Period").
    2. Prospective Contestants will have to register via the Contest registration portal on lastpalmstanding.sg during the Qualifying Period to be enrolled in the lucky draw described in Rule 2.11 below (each, a "Qualifier").
    3. All Qualifiers must be certified by a registered medical practitioner on or after 1st September 2019, that they are fit to participate in the Contest, and all Qualifiers (including any overseas Contestants selected by Motor Image) shall provide Mediacorp with a copy of such medical certifications.
    4. A valid and acceptable medical certificate should have:
      1. the Qualifier's personal details such as name as in NRIC, NRIC/Passport number and/or date of birth;
      2. The name and address of the clinic/hospital; and
      3. The name, signature and official stamp of the registered medical practitioner who performed the examination.
    5. If the Qualifier needs to consume any medication during the Contest, a copy of his/her diagnosis and prescription by a registered medical practitioner must be submitted upon registration on Saturday 2nd November 2019 for the Contest.
    6. For the avoidance of doubt, medical certification by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner will not be acceptable for this purpose.
    7. Notwithstanding any diagnosis and prescription by the Qualifier's doctor, Mediacorp reserves the right to disqualify the Qualifier from participation in the Contest if, in Mediacorp's sole and absolute opinion, any such prescribed medication may grant the Qualifier an unfair advantage in the Contest (e.g. medication which produces insomnia or reduces the urge to urinate or sweat). No appeals will be entertained.
    8. All Qualifiers must be physically fit and have no physical ailment(s) which may recur or be exacerbated during the Contest. Mediacorp reserves the right to decline participation in the Contest to any participant and/or disqualify any Qualifier from further participation at any stage of the Contest for medical, safety or other reasons at Mediacorp's sole discretion.
    9. All Qualifiers are required to register personally on Saturday 2nd November 2019 at Ngee Ann City, Civic Plaza, at 9am sharp with their original and a photocopy of his/her photo identity (such as NRIC, passport or birth certificate) and medical certifications. No proxies are allowed and Qualifiers that are not present for registration at the designated date, time and venue stated will be disqualified from entering the Contest. Qualifiers must be available 24 hours a day from Saturday 2nd November 2019 up to Wednesday 6th November 2019.
    10. Each Qualifier will be required to pay a SGD15.00 registration fee upon registration online. Payment of the registration fee does not guarantee that the Qualifier will be one of the final Contestants taking part in the Contest. There will be no refund of any registration fees paid for any reason whatsoever.
    11. Contestants taking part in the actual Contest will be decided randomly by a lucky draw of the names of the registered Qualifiers on Saturday 2nd November 2019.
    12. Each Contestant will be assigned a contestant number printed on a tag. The Contestant must wear their respective tags together with T-shirts provided by Mediacorp. There will be a total of ten cars used in the Contest. Each Contestant's number must correspond with a randomly assigned palm decal on each car.
    13. There will be no swapping of contestant numbers, contestant T-shirts or car / palm decal placement at any point of the Contest.
    14. Prior to commencement of the Contest at 1pm, Saturday 2nd November 2019 ("Commencement Time"), Mediacorp representatives will conduct a body search of all Contestants. Female Contestants will only be searched by female representatives. Mediacorp reserves the right to disqualify any Contestant who rejects being body searched or any Contestant carrying banned items into the Contest.
  3. CONTEST RULES AND MECHANICS
    1. Authorized Mediacorp Marshalls ("Marshalls") will constantly monitor all the Contestants for the duration of the Contest.
    2. The Contestants will be required to place their right palms on their designated palm decals on the designated cars from 1pm on Saturday 2nd November 2019.
    3. Contestants are not permitted to wear watches, bracelets, charms, rings, or any other form of jewellery/accessories on his/her right arm, wrist, hand and/or fingers. Other accessories (apart from ionic or magnetic bracelets and necklaces, or any other accessories deemed by Mediacorp to be performance enhancing or otherwise inappropriate which are all strictly prohibited) may be allowed to be worn on other parts of the body, at Mediacorp's sole discretion.
    4. Contestants are strictly not allowed to bring any drugs, supplements or other consumables (e.g. caffeine pills) to the Contest, except as permitted under this Rule. If any Contestant has a chronic medical condition (which must be explicitly declared in his/her medical certification at Rule 2.3 hereunder) which requires medication, the Contestant may bring and consume such medication during the Contest provided that he/she provides a) the actual medication to be consumed and b) the original copy of their doctor's written diagnosis and prescription to Mediacorp's representatives for inspection and verification before the Contest. Any attempt to substitute or pass off a different drug, supplement or consumable for the prescribed medication will result in instant disqualification from the Contest and future editions of the Contest.
    5. To remain in the Contest, the Contestant's palm must remain flat on the vehicle surface and he/she is not allowed to lift or move his/her right palm from his/her designated palm decal, except when authorized to do so by Marshalls. If a Contestant moves or lifts his/her palm from his/her designated palm decal, he/she will be disqualified immediately. The last Contestant to have his/her palm remaining on his/her designated decal on his/her designated car will win the Grand Prize.
    6. Each Contestant who remains in the Contest for at least 48 hours from the Commencement Time shall be awarded a cash prize of S$50. Thereafter, each Contestant who remains in the Contest beyond 48 hours from the Commencement Time shall be awarded a cash prize of S$50 for every 5 hours that he/she remains in the Contest (i.e. S$50 for the 53rd hour, S$50 for the 58th hour and so on).
    7. In the event that there is more than one Contestant remaining in the Contest at 8pm, Wednesday 6th November 2019, a further challenge will be introduced to such remaining Contestants to decide the final winning Contestant. Mediacorp will determine the nature and the rules of such challenge at its sole and absolute discretion.
    8. In the event that the winner of the Contest has remained in the Contest for longer than the existing record of 82 hours and 16 minutes from the Commencement Time, the winner shall receive the Certificate of Entitlement for the Vehicle, in addition to the Grand Prize described in Rule 1.4.
    9. Contestants will be given a 5-minute break every 6 hours. Contestants may use the toilets, take any pre-approved and inspected medication under Rule 3.4 and/or eat and drink in the designated hospitality tent(s) during the breaks. Contestants must take their breaks at the stipulated time. The 5-minute breaks are not negotiable, tradable or transferable and cannot be accumulated.
    10. Non-contestants may play the Reward Rounds of the Mediacorp Car Online Challenge at http://lastpalmstanding.com from Saturday 2nd November 2019 and assign their Reward Round rewards to a Contestant who is still remaining in the Contest. The top 10 ranked scorers in each Reward Round may assign an extra 5-minute break to a Contestant ("Selected Contestant") of their choice who is still remaining in the Contest, and the Selected Contestant may award an extra 5-minute break to another Contestant of their choice who is still remaining in the Contest. For the avoidance of doubt, it is not mandatory for the Selected Contestant to select another Contestant to be assigned an extra 5-minute break. Scores will be reset to zero after each Reward Round is conducted. At any one time, a Contestant is only eligible to receive one Reward Round Break. Once the Contest is left with the last 15 Contestants, the Reward Round will no longer be played.
    11. In the event of any suspected or actual technical defect, breakdown, fraud or cheating in the Mediacorp Car Online Challenge, Mediacorp reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend or cancel the award of the extra breaks to any Contestant(s) and/or to disqualify any Contestant involved in such fraud or cheating.
    12. During the designated breaks, Contestants will not be allowed to leave the restricted area, which includes the stage, toilet(s) and designated hospitality tent(s).
    13. Contestants are allowed to have contact with ONE (1) pre-designated family member, relative or friend during the 5-minute "Family Break" scheduled at 7.00p.m. daily. For this purpose, a single transferable pass will be issued to each Contestant at 4pm on Saturday 2nd November 2019, upon confirmation of his/her place in the Contest. The Contestant's family member, relative or friend shall be required to display this pass conspicuously at all times and upon demand. There will be no replacement for any lost and/or missing passes.
    14. At all other times, the Contestants shall not communicate or have any contact with their family members or relatives or friends during the Contest, except during the 5-minute "Family Break" scheduled at 7.00pm daily.
    15. Contestants may not open the doors, windows, bonnet or boot of the cars used in the Contest.
    16. Contestants are not allowed to shower, bathe or shave. They are not allowed to use any personal hygiene/cleaning devices such as wet wipes, tissues, talcum powder, etc. during the Contest.
    17. If any Contestant commits an abusive verbal or physical act (e.g. taunting, gesturing, nudging, shoving, punching, slapping) towards another Contestant, Mediacorp representatives, Marshalls or any other persons, the Contestant(s) involved will be immediately disqualified, at Mediacorp's sole discretion.
    18. Any acts of violence by the Qualifiers, the Contestants and/or their family members or friends against any of the other Qualifiers, Contestants, Marshalls, Mediacorp representatives or any other persons may be reported to the Police and the Qualifier(s) and/or Contestant(s) involved will be immediately disqualified.
    19. Contestants are not allowed to soil or stain their clothes or relieve themselves (e.g. urinate, defecate, vomit, menstruate) in their clothes during the duration of the Contest. Contestants who do so may be disqualified, at Mediacorp's discretion.
    20. The Marshalls and other Mediacorp representatives may issue instructions to the Contestants from time to time during the Contest, which the Contestants must comply with. The instructions will only be given in English. If any Contestant is not clear about any of the instructions, the Contestant should clarify with the Marshalls or Mediacorp representatives immediately. For the avoidance of doubt, Mediacorp shall not be responsible if any of the Contestants should misunderstand or misinterpret such instructions.
    21. In the event of a haze situation, Contestants with chronic heart or lung conditions or suffer from existing respiratory ailments are advised not to take part in the Contest.
    22. In the event that any Contestant needs any medical attention, Mediacorp may in its sole discretion disqualify the Contestant and assist in transporting the said Contestant to the nearest medical/hospital facility or medical/hospital facility that is recommended by the medical team for the Contest.
    23. All medical expenses will be borne by such Contestant and Mediacorp shall not be liable or responsible for any failure or delay in providing such transportation or medical attention, or any losses, damages or injuries whatsoever or howsoever caused arising from the provision of such transportation or medical attention.
    24. Contestants are not permitted to smoke during the Contest except during the 5-minute break at 7pm, 1am, 7am and 1pm, in the designated smoking area.
    25. Contestants are not permitted to consume drugs or alcohol at all time, throughout the duration of the Contest.
    26. Contestants are not permitted to use mobile phones at all time, throughout the duration of the Contest.
    27. Contestants are not permitted to wear sunglasses, tinted or transition lens glasses, hats or caps or to bring any personal belongings (e.g. mobile phones, wallets, etc.) at all time, throughout the duration of the Contest.
    28. Certain permitted items needed by the Contestants (such as approved medication under these Rules and Regulations) during breaks are to be pre-packed by the Contestants in individual-labeled zip-lock bags, which will be kept by Mediacorp.
    29. For identification purposes, all Contestant must carry a photocopy of their photo identity (e.g. NRIC or Driver's License) at all times throughout the Contest.
    30. In the event of any dispute, the decision of Mediacorp shall be final. The selection and number of Jurors shall be at the sole discretion of Mediacorp and Mediacorp's partners. Mediacorp's decision at all stages of the Contest is final. No enquiries, appeals, verbal or written, shall be entertained. All Contestants shall accept and abide by any and all decisions made by Mediacorp concerning, without limitation, the rules of participation, the rules, procedures and regulations of the Contest, the award of prize(s) and any other matters relating to the Contest.
  4. PUBLICITY AND PERSONAL DATA
    1. By participating in the Contest, all Qualifiers and Contestants agree to take part in any promotional or publicity exercise as maybe conducted by Mediacorp in connection with the Contest, and all Qualifiers and Contestants hereby irrevocably and unconditionally grant Mediacorp all consents and waivers necessary for Mediacorp to record the all Qualifiers' and Contestants' performance, appearance, likeness, name and/or voice (as the case may be). All Qualifiers and Contestants acknowledge that Mediacorp shall be at liberty to publish and otherwise use any recordings and photographs (if any), for the promotion and publicity of this Contest (whether now or in the future). Each Qualifier and Contestant expressly waives all rights, which all Qualifiers and Contestants may have or be entitled under any legislation now existing or in the future enacted in any part of the world. Each Qualifier and Contestant further agrees that he/she shall not take part in any advertising, promotional or public events or activities organized by any third party relating to or in connection with the Contest without Mediacorp's prior written consent.
    2. By participating in the Contest, each Qualifiers and Contestants:
      1. consents to Mediacorp and/or Mediacorp's group companies collecting, using, disclosing and/or processing any and all personal data submitted for various purposes, including to organize and produce the Contest, communicate with the participants, to send marketing and advertising materials from Mediacorp or its business partners, to conduct market research and statistical analysis; and
      2. consents to Mediacorp and/or Mediacorp's group companies transferring such personal data out of Singapore to Mediacorp's and/or Mediacorp's group companies' third party service providers, the Contest's sponsors or agents for the purposes as described above.
  5. MISCELLANEOUS
    1. Mediacorp reserves the right to change, amend or withdraw these Rules and Regulations (or any part thereof) without prior notice. Please refer to the website at lastpalmstanding.sg for the latest Rules and Regulations. Mediacorp further reserves the right, without any liability on its part whatsoever, to cancel, postpone, terminate, suspend, end, stop or in any other way cease the Contest at any time without prior notice.
    2. The Rules and Regulations and the Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore and the participants submit irrevocably to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Republic of Singapore.
    3. If these Rules and Regulations are translated into any other languages, such other language versions are for reference only and shall not be used in the interpretation of these Rules and Regulations. The English version shall prevail in all circumstances.
